About Crosstown Harmony Chorus

Crosstown Harmony is an award-winning chorus of Sweet Adelines International. We sing in the barbershop style - though you may find us different from the barbershop singers of old. This wonderful chorus attracts members from as far away as 60 miles from Milwaukee.

We are a 13-time regional championship chorus. Region 22 includes members from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and upper Michigan, and Crosstown Harmony represented the region at the 2011 international competition in Houston, Texas.

Performance

Crosstown Harmony members are busy women who come in all shapes and sizes, all ages, and all walks of life. And we are more than just a hobby. We rehearse weekly all year long to perform in the most professional way possible. Our choreography and costumes, as well as our off-paper 4-part a capella singing, set us apart from the average singing group. We could be called an adult woman's "swing choir." The friendship within the chorus, to say nothing of the wonderful barbershop chords we produce, create the caring and sharing that give us the emotional boost to "sing our hearts out." Besides performing our own shows and for local organizations, we compete seriously to win in our field and to keep our craft in the highest working order. Why not visit us and try your hand at this fun and challenging hobby?

Education

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade. And at least once a year, we also hold a weekend retreat for our members for a more intensive educational experience that helps to raise our level of singing individually as well as chorus-wide.

CompetitionIn the spring of every year, Crosstown Harmony Chorus participates in the Region 22 chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. In 2012, International Competition will be held in Denver, CO. Click here to learn more.

Quartets

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Crosstown currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section to learn more about them.
